Gettin old ain't easy.....

Think that all there is to getting old is just sitting there listening to your face wrinkle? It isn't. I found out that getting old can be physically painful. What do I mean you ask. I dislocated one of my toes this week. I would like to tell you it was some sort of sports injury or I got hurt running into burning building to save a kitten or something like that. But that was not the case. Do you know how I hurt my toe? I sat with it bent in the same position to long. Yes that's right I was having a stressful day at work on Monday and sat with my toes bent too long and it dislocated itself. That I believe may be in the book under " you might be getting old if"......you sit with a body part in one position too long that it dislodges itself from the joint. So to all of you that are in your thirties or not quite there yet this is what you have to look forward to.

So this week has been eventful. Kaitlyn got the flu on Monday. We were worried that she had contracted what Tyler had but luckily it was the puke and go kind of illness. (sorry that is slang for the 24 hr. stomach virus some people call White Castle the "puke and go" so I thought that it was important to be specific). Much like when Tyler was sick Kaitlyn only wanted Kristena so that meant that Kaitlyn got to sleep in our room while Daddy slept on the couch. She loved it. She would sleep in there all of the time if we would let her. She is getting so big. She is almost through her first year in Kindergarten and it amazes me what they learn in "K". She's learned to read, some basic grammar (comma's, period's etc anyone wishing yet that I would let her make sure my grammar is correct) and addition and subtraction. I think the only thing I learned in Kindergarten was that it is hard for large little boys to jump rope and that naps in the afternoon after your milk and graham crackers is a pretty awesome thing.

To further make me feel old she had to take a standardized test this week!?! She is only in Kindergarten!!! I know I did not take a test in kindergarten except making sure I remembered that boogers were not part of good nutritional diet. She is a little worried she may have missed a question or two but thinks she did well.(in case you were wondering). We were telling her how smart she was the other night and she simply said "I know, I am smart". Never underestimate how important confidence is.

She is growing into such a little lady. It seems like that all we do is buy her clothes and shoes. Everytime I turn around her toes are hanging over the front of her sandals. (we don't buy tennis shoes here stays to hot to long) We don't want that to happen until she can make those decisions for herself. I mean really you have seen the women or men at the mall with their big talon toes hanging over the edge of their sandals. Really do they think that if the put on a size 6 and they normally wear a size 9 that the shoes still do fit. So if you put on your sandals and your toes curl over the top so far that you can scratch a piece of dried gum off the floor with your toes without taking your sandals off then maybe you should have bought the next size up. Really there should be no reason that your sandals should create a "hang over".(hang over is defined as the excess foot drooping over an ill fitted pair of open toed shoes) . If you have shoes that create hang over gather them up and either donate them, throw them away or burn them. My daughter is complaining about her "hang over" so her and Kristena are going shoe shopping on Saturday.

So I said all of that to say man does time fly. The daughter that lives here is not the same little girl that stormed into my life and stole my heart just 4 years ago. When I met her for the first time I went with Kristena to pick her up from daycare. She would not speak. I mean not just to me but literally she would not say a word while I was in the car but as soon as I got out of the car Kristena said she just would not be quiet. She eventually opened up while I was helping Kristena get her first apartment ready. I was in Kaitlyn's new room helping her get her table and chairs cleaned up and all she said did was start pointing out the spots I had missed. It was the first time she had ever spoken to me and I was thrilled to reclean all of them until she was satisfied. I was not sure where she got that bossiness from but now after 3 years of wedded bliss I think I may have figured it out :)(love you hunny!!). She now is my girl. I love to watch her run and play soccer and get embarrassed as we mention the various boys that she has a little crush on at school. I especially love to take her to class and after I say good-bye turn around and make a ridiculous face at her in front of all of her friends. She acts like it bothers her but I know secretly she loves it.

I can not wait to see what she grows up to be. I am sure what ever she decides to become she will be the best at. She has promised to live with us forever and never move away. Kristena has made her sign a contract to that effect but I am not sure that it will stand up in court after she turns 18. I often think what she would be great at and I think that she will be an actress. She can generate drama out of almost anything. From the turkey towel on the ship(which she still mentions) to just picking out a pair of underwear. She would be great. The next Julia Roberts.

Well that's all I got for now. Hope you have enjoyed today's rant. Remember to stretch those toes every so often(only if you are over 30!). Congrats to Kelley for passing her test and to my cousin's Andrea and Jon(they are not related I called him my cousin but he won't be my cousin officially until after the wedding) for getting married. You will love married life!!! Have a good night all!!!

When you say that after 3 years of married bliss you know where Kaitlyn gets her bosiness - have you finally realized that YOU can be a little much at times??? :)

Well, I feel better I have read my nightly chapter and am patting myself on the back for raising such a kind and sensitive man.

I chuckled at the hang over and needed the laugh after a long day at work. Sometimes I am not sure where sanity lies there or here. ha

Kaitlyn stole all our hearts. 3 boys and one little princess. On one of Samuel's questions at school they asked who is a princess or maybe what it another name for princess, I told Kim he probably answered Kaitlyn.

Well, got to write up one of my employees so they can fire her.

Love ya
Mom
